For Kelsey, a collaborative process and creative problem-solving bring the world of the story to life. As a Production Designer, listening to those who have been with the idea longest, including the Writer, Director, and Producers, brings an understanding that allows the Art Department to contribute to drawing out the themes, defining the tone, and analyzing the characters. Concepts unfold to reveal character through design, layering in metaphors for deeper meaning. We then work with the other creative teams, especially the Director of Photography and Costume Designer, to ground the set designs and overall vision in a cohesive world, paying tribute to even the smallest details. While seeping into the visual language, mood boards, sketches, and/or renderings are developed depending on the needs of the project and timeline constraints. Together, we transform conceptual designs into physical realities such as prop fabrication, custom set builds, or on-location transformations. Kelsey works as a New York City based Production and Set Designer but can travel to support needed projects.
