Following his latest romantic humiliation, Simon is unexpectedly summoned to his grandmother's house to meet her new boyfriend, Merv. The man he encounters there upends his understanding of love, loss, and Chinese takeout.
For the non-union indie short film Merv, the Production Designer worked closely with the Director and Cinematographer to enhance an existing location to create a rich color palette and a unifying visual world for the backdrop of the story. Working within tight budget and time limitations, the art department curated nostalgic items adding colorful props and kitschy set dressing to invoke the comedic tone of the film. The Production Design also played off the vibrant Costume Design to embody each character's personality.
